Gain experience before doing MBA

Done with bachelors degree and thinking of doing MBA?

There are very few people who do what they have decided and some people just go along with their destiny wherever it takes. And this what you will experience if you are about to complete your MBA studies and searching for a job through campus recruitment. Students from different backgrounds pursue MBA considering a degree of MBA will help them to grow up the ladder of management in company faster than other graduates and masters. Yes this may be true, but you should be knowing that what are you going to do before joining MBA school.

Many students who do MBA come from families who are already running their own business. So getting knowledge of MBA helps to learn new skills and gives a new perspective on how to improve and develop the current business of their family. Some students do their graduation, have some few years/months of experience and then take admission for MBA. It is much better to have 1-2 years of experience after bachelors degree rather than having experience of only few months or less than a year. Having an experience in a particular field gives you the proper knowledge of that sector, it becomes easy when you join MBA on increasing the same sector knowledge and focus to get into that sector only. Some students join their previous organizations where they had experience with much improved salary and a good designation. Or they may find other good organization which matches their profile.

Now, the problem mostly happens with students who takes admission in MBA directly after graduation without any prior experience in any company. Although many reputed B-schools do not accept students without any experience, there are many B-schools which give admissions to students who don't have any experience after bachelors degree. It's good if one has already decided, which stream to take as major(Marketing, Finance, HR, etc) and what kind of job profile he/she wants to have after getting a job. This will make the student more focused and take knowledge accordingly.

MBA is such a course in which you will get to learn the management lessons from all sectors. So it becomes difficult to decide which sector to focus on. And when the recruitment process starts and Companies starts visiting campus to hire students, you will find that companies from different sectors. So if you haven't decided at this moment where to go then it may happen you get hired for a job role which you have never thought. It may also happen that you will get another good profile with a good salary, but if you are really not interested in that kind of job you may leave the job soon which will affect your career profile

So its always better to have a job in which you are really interested. One may get hired early for a job which he/she desires or need to wait little longer. In this situation having prior experience comes handy because the probability of getting hired in a competition with others get higher and also you have a genuine point to talk in an interview about why you want to get that particular job. So having a prior experience will not only help to get hired but also to negotiate on salary.

So for those who are pursuing their bachelors degree and are thinking of doing MBA in future, it would be great advice to look for a job rather than looking for in which MBA school to get admission.
